Comment entrer
Commencez hors de la niche. Avancez lentement vers l'intérieur ; à chaque couche, revenez à la phrase exacte qui l'a introduite.
La limite
La séquence suit le verset. L'emboîtement visuel et les brèves gloses sont éditoriaux ; l'histoire de l'interprétation est bien plus vaste.

Le verset ne présente pas une image fixe. Il place sans cesse un réceptacle lumineux à l'intérieur d'un autre, puis porte la similitude au-delà des objets qui l'ont formée.- 01Commencer par le cadre
La similitude est introduite avant que la niche n'apparaisse. L'image s'inscrit à l'intérieur d'une parole sur la lumière divine.
- 02Avancer vers l'intérieur
Niche, lampe, verre, étoile, arbre et huile arrivent l'un après l'autre. Chaque nouvelle couche change la façon de voir la précédente.
- 03Poursuivre au-delà de la lueur
« Lumière sur lumière » clôt l'image emboîtée, mais non le verset ; la guidance, les similitudes et la science suivent encore.

ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ
God is named the Light of the heavens and the earth; then a likeness is offered for His light. Everything that follows is that likeness, vessel within vessel.
The verse continues
The similitude closes at light upon light, but the verse does not: it goes on to guidance, to the giving of likenesses, and to knowledge. It is one verse, whole:
يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ لِنُورِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَٰلَ لِلنَّاسِ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ كَمِشْكَوٰةٍ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ فِى زُجَاجَةٍ ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّىٌّ يُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ زَيْتُونَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِىٓءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ نُّورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ لِنُورِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَٰلَ لِلنَّاسِ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.
