The boundary

A resonance is not a scientific prediction. These studies invite reflection; they do not turn scripture into a laboratory manual.

It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise - they are the foundation of the Book - and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, "We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord." And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.

01 · source

What the text says

Twenty-nine suras open with muqatta'at, disconnected letters: Alif-Lam-Mim, Ha-Mim, Kaf-Ha-Ya-Ayn-Sad, Qaf, Nun. Fourteen of the alphabet's twenty-eight letters appear in them, exactly half. The Quran itself, in 3:7, says the book contains clear verses and ambiguous ones, and cautions against those who chase the ambiguous seeking hidden meanings.

02 · reception

What classical readers understood

The dominant classical position is the most honest one: Allahu a'lam bi muradih, God knows best what He meant by them. Readings offered: names of the suras, oaths, or a challenge composed of the very letters the deniers had always possessed.

03 · observation

What science sees

We tested the circulated claim that each sura is enriched in its own opening letters, across all 78 letter-instances: verdict, NOT confirmed in general (mean enrichment x1.04; 44 above the book's average share, 34 below: near chance). But the single-letter openings are different: sura 50, opening with Qaf alone, uses Qaf at 1.77 times the book's rate, and sura 68, opening with Nun, uses Nun at 1.23 times. A claim tested, mostly retired, and a sharper, smaller mystery kept: exactly how honest inquiry should end.
