The boundary

A resonance is not a scientific prediction. These studies invite reflection; they do not turn scripture into a laboratory manual.

Before the instrumentGuess first

What is the physical difference between sunlight and moonlight?

Hold your guess. Then run the experiment below.

Fusion at the core makes new light continuously: the sun is a source, a burning lamp.

The verses

  • Yunus 10:5✦ exploreread

It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases - that you may know the number of years and account [of time]. Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know

  • Al-Furqaan 25:61✦ exploreread

Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon.

  • Nooh 71:16✦ exploreread

And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?

01 · source

What the text says

The text consistently gives the two different words: the sun is diya and siraj, a blaze, a burning lamp; the moon is nur, a light, munir, lit.

02 · reception

What classical readers understood

Several classical commentators noted the distinction: the sun's light as its own, the moon's as received and reflected.

03 · observation

What science sees

The sun generates light by fusion; the moon generates none, reflecting about 12 percent of what strikes it. A lamp and a mirror are different kinds of bright.
