The boundary

A resonance is not a scientific prediction. These studies invite reflection; they do not turn scripture into a laboratory manual.

Before the instrumentGuess first

Which part of the brain sits directly behind the forehead, and what does it decide?

Hold your guess. Then run the experiment below.

Deciding, or judging a lie, drives the frontmost block hardest: the prefrontal region, planning, choice, judging truth from lie.

What the text says

The text: No! If he does not desist, We will surely seize him by the forelock: a lying, sinning forelock (nasiya kadhiba khati'a).

02 · reception

What classical readers understood

Classically an idiom of humiliation, seizing a man by the forehead's lock; the attribution of lying to the forelock itself was noted as arresting.

03 · observation

What science sees

The prefrontal cortex, directly behind the forehead, is the seat of planning, choice, and, neuroimaging suggests, deliberate deception. The adjectives land on the anatomy that plans the lie: an evocative convergence, offered as such.
